Echoes of Conflict: Pahalgam Attack and the Geopolitical Chessboard

Priyanshu Singh · Apr 26, 2025
The Pahalgam attack has once again underscored the urgent need to combat terrorism emanating from Pakistan. The Indian public is rightfully angry and demands strong action. A decisive war against terrorism is not just justified but essential. However, in responding, India must carefully navigate the complex geopolitical landscape to avoid falling into traps set by global powers.

Geopolitical Context:

Pakistan’s provocations aim to divert attention from its internal crises while seeking international sympathy as a victim. Meanwhile, China, with its deep ties to Pakistan through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), benefits from India being distracted by conflict. Escalation could shift India’s focus away from countering Chinese aggression in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. Global powers like the U.S. and Russia may also exploit such conflicts to maintain influence in the region.

India’s Strategy:

India must respond forcefully to terrorism while avoiding full-scale war that could sap its resources. Covert operations and surgical strikes should dismantle terror networks with precision. Diplomatic efforts should expose Pakistan’s role on global platforms, isolating it economically and politically. Simultaneously, India must prepare for multi-front challenges, modernizing its defense and leveraging cyber and economic tools.

Conclusion:

A war on terrorism is necessary but must be waged with strategic foresight. India’s response should be intense enough to dismantle the terror threat while avoiding prolonged conflicts that could undermine its long-term growth and security. By balancing strength with caution, India can secure its position as a global power without falling prey to geopolitical traps.
